Appraisal Notices and Appeals

The 2024 Notice of Appraised value from the appraisal district will be coming out soon.  Of course, the first thing you want to check is the market value that is listed.  This is the value that your taxes will be based on, unless you have a homestead exemption, agriculture special value, disability exemption, or other exemption or special value.  Be sure to check that your exemptions and special values are correct.  I have had several cases where the ag value or homestead was removed by the appraisal district, but the owner did not receive notice of the change.  Depending on the market value, this omission could cost you thousands of dollars.  If you think the notice is incorrect, contact the appraisal district immediately, or file a protest before the deadline, which is generally May 15th or 30 days after the notice was mailed.

If you can't get anything done at the appraisal district, we can help.  Just be sure to contact us as early as possible so that we can prepare a comprehensive appeal.  Once you sign up with us, we take care of everything, including the Appraisal Review Board Hearing and if necessary, we can file for Binding Arbitration and handle that as well.

The most important thing is to look at the appraisal notice carefully as soon as you receive it.  It gets very difficult to file a late notice of protest and it can only be done under certain circumstances. Give Chris a call at 214-803-2564 for any questions you may have.  We have very reasonable fees and will work with you to design a fee structure that works for you.
